Panjab University has postponed all exams scheduled from November 18 to 20, 2025, due to continuous student protests over the pending Senate elections. Panjab University has officially postponed exams that were supposed to take place from November 18 to November 20, 2025, after massive student protests on campus. The university released this Punjab University latest notification after the situation kept getting more intense. The protests have been going on because students are unhappy about the long delay in the Senate elections. These Senate polls have reportedly been pending for more than a year, and the students have said very clearly that they will boycott the exams until the university finally makes the election schedule public. Some groups even warned that they would not allow exams to be held on campus if their demands continued to be ignored.

The agitation got even stronger as many political groups and farmers’ organizations extended their support. The Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Samyukta Kisan Morcha, SKM (Non-Political), and Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha all stood with the students. With the growing pressure, the campus saw a heavy deployment of security forces as the students, under the banner of “Panjab University Bachao Morcha” , continued their demonstrations. They accused the administration of ignoring issues of autonomy and demanded that the Senate election dates be declared immediately.

A meeting was held on November 12 between the student representatives and the Vice Chancellor, where the VC assured them that the election schedule had already been forwarded to the chancellor for approval. But the students said they would not stop until the schedule was officially released. The protests originally started against the Centre’s plan to change the university’s governing structure, and even though the Ministry of Education withdrew that proposal on November 7, the students continued their call for a full “university shutdown” on November 17.

The issue also drew political reactions. Former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal called Panjab University a strong symbol of Punjab’s identity and insisted that people would never let the university be separated from the state. He also mentioned that an Akali Dal delegation would soon meet the Vice President of India to seek help in protecting the university’s autonomy and heritage.
