The protesting teachers of Delhi University on Thursday decided to evaluate answer sheets of final-year students giving much-needed relief to the students and the administration of Delhi University.

However, the teachers body said the decision has been made only for final-year students and the boycott of the evaluation process will continue until their demands are fulfilled.

The teachers are on strike while protesting against UGC's Gazette Notification that increases the workload of the teachers and let to retrenchment of ad-hoc teachers.

The UGC had rolled back the changed workload criteria. But they did not take any action on the Academic Performance Indicator (API) and as a result, the teachers are continuing their protest.

The teachers have boycotted the evaluation process since 24 May and also refused to participate in the admission that is going on in the University.

Due to the boycott of evaluation, it is feared that the announcement of undergraduate courses results would be delayed. Generally, the result comes out by June 30 but this year it is expected to be a delay.

While the admission process for the undergraduate courses is going to be commenced by the end of next week, where teachers are engaged for the verification of documents other related work during admission.

Giving relief to the final-year students -the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP) batch, teachers have agreed to complete the evaluation within a week.

What could be more unfortunate that the decision of the government to continue with the API based promotion scheme (PBAS), which is going to adversely impact on teaching, learning and research, and the service conditions of teachers. We will continue our strike till our demands are addressed ,” said the president of the Delhi University Teachers’ Association.

The teachers have been insisting that their boycott will continue till June 20. The future course of action will be decided very soon after their meeting.

To express their discontentment, teachers will hold a candlelight vigil at Mandi House on Saturday.
