Protests Over Counselling Continues

Scores of aspirants of PG medical courses in colleges across the state continued their protest on Saturday, stalling fresh counselling of UP Postgraduate Medical Entrance Examination (UPPGMEE-2016) on the second day.

Candidates sat outside the proposed counselling venue at Kalam Centre on the KGMU campus and took to sloganeering against the “injustice” being done to them. “Information regarding additional weightage was not disclosed before the conduct of examinations in the GO or the examination brochure. No such criterion was set earlier and the candidates without prior experience in remote postings would be denied natural justice,” lamented candidates, who had already secured admission, through an earlier counselling, in PG courses across the medical colleges in state.

The candidates also reiterated their demand for euthanasia from the President. They said that revised merit list being made after an Apex Court order had brought the 82th rank PMHS candidate to top the list.

On the other hand, candidates without prior experience in medical service, complained that the overall topper in UPPGMEE-2016 Anveshika Srivastava has got her rank pushed to 72nd after additional weightage was accorded to PMHS candidates as per the SC order.

Meanwhile, PMS Association general secretary Dr Sachin Vaish demanded that fresh counselling be conducted as scheduled. “The SC order should be executed so that counselling could be conducted as per schedule as it would help improving health services in government hospitals,” said Dr Vaish.

Earlier in the day, KGMU Vice-Chancellor Ravi Kant intervened in the matter and asked the students protesting at the Kalam Centre to allow conduct of the proposed counselling.
