Nageswara Rao, Supreme Court Judge saved himself from hearing a plea that challenged the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). Hearing of the case has been rescheduled to July 14.

The case that is to be heard is going to challenge the government ordinance weakening an apex court order that stated that NEET will be the only examination that students will have to appear for in order to get admission to undergraduate MBBS and BDS courses for the academic session 2016-2017.

The petition was filed by Activist Anand Rai in the apex court to challenge the central government’s decision. He is also known for bringing Vyapam scam to light.

Apart from challenging the ordinance, the petition also raised questions regarding centre’s backflip on the issue.

Apex court’s decision was earlier given a go ahead by the Centre but later nullified it by passing an ordinance.

The ordinance passed by the Centre violated the Section 14 (right to equality), Section 21 (right to life) in terms of its arbitrary character and with regard to the students, who aspire to study medicine and will suffer the most because of the flip-flop of decisions.

Anand Rai stated that all associations in the country must be given the right to conduct their operations freely and must be equally treated and that administrative authority must be checked and the decision making must be fair.
