Skill Laboratories to set up in Medical Colleges at Vishakhapatnam Soon

Health minister Kamineni Srinivasa Rao said that soon medical colleges will have skill laboratories and students will get tabs in their colleges. Two more floors were inaugurated in the super speciality block and Jeevandhan Unit at the King George Hospital (KGH) apart from opening Star Pinnacle Heart Centre at Arilova Health City.

Moreover to fill the vacant doctor posts in AP, 120 doctors would be shifted from Telangana to the state as per staff distribution soon.

He also said that about 7,600 students pursuing medicine in the state will be provided with tabs so that they would access Internet for studies.

With added video conference facilities, 11 medical colleges in the state will have the facility of skill labs soon. These labs will train the students as they can practice their skills by conducting artificial surgeries.

Despite of the shortage of doctors, Kamineni confessed that the vacancies would be filled up soon. “At present, the state faces five per cent doctor shortage and very soon about 120 doctors will be shifted from Telangana once the CR Kamalanathan committee distributes the doctors and health officials. After the distribution, the shortage of doctors will reduce to 2 per cent,” he said.

In addition to this, a trauma care center and burns unit will also be built to deal with road accident cases and other untoward incident victims at VIMS.

With this facility, the victims will no longer will have to be taken to KGH, they could be brought to VIMS directly.

Super speciality block expanded

Two more floors have also been constructed and inaugurated. The total budget for the same is estimated to be `11 crore.

The third floor of the building will have departments like Urology, Neurology, while the fourth floor will have gastroenterology and endocrinology wards.
