'SUK' Gets Nod to Modernise Exam Processes

The examination department of the Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK), will soon have an end-to-end computer system which will look to eliminate various irregularities.

According to the decision of the management council on May 27, all work of the department will soon be carried out on end-to-end computer systems. The examination department mostly relies on conventional methods for all its examination work, before, during and after.

"The end-to-end integrated exam management system can manage the entire operation of examinations. It will include all procedures from student registration to issuing of hall tickets, question banks and question paper bank generation, secure delivery of question papers, optical mark recognition and bar code technology in answer sheets, digital scanning and on screen evaluation, online application for re-evaluation, and degrees and certificates."

The official also said that the emphasis of the committee report was on the effective use of information and communication technology for the managing examinations conducted by universities to usher in greater efficiency, transparency and reliability.

He added that SUK is already using the secured remote paper delivery (SRPD) system which was suggested in the committee report. The state government had set up a high-level committee headed by information technology secretary Rajesh Agarwal on August 1, 2012, following rampant irregularities and many cases of question papers leaking.

"After the committee submitted its report on October 5, 2012, it was decided to implement the entire report," said Kakade.
