Supreme Court’s Order Prevents Admissions in Central Polytechnic College, Kerala

The final allotment process of the Polytechnic Admissions in Kerala is going to commence on 29-July-2016. However, the Central Polytechnic College is not likely to take part in admissions even though it has got all the clearances from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The Supreme Court has asked the AICTE to consider only affiliations prior to 14-April-2016 for the admissions which are to be conducted for the current academic year.

An expert committee from AICTE has visited the college in April. The AICTE has withheld the admissions of the college as it had flagged 28 issues regarding facilities, faculty, and others. The college does not have proper safety measures. The college management has solved all the issues flagged by AICTE except the issue related to faculty. The decision related to the appointment must be taken by the state government.

The issue has been raised in the legislative assembly and the financial department issued an order for the appointment of faculty members.

All the issues have been presented to the Appeals Committee of AICTE on 30-June-2016. The AICTE considered the fresh appeal and allowed the college for a maximum intake of 45 students instead of 60 students. Right now, the directive of Supreme Court became a hurdle for the admissions for this academic year.

The CPT, Nettayam is one of the premier polytechnic colleges in Kerala. Most of the students have opted for this college in the counselling. The students did not opt for other colleges as they thought that the SC may give positive judgment. A total number of 6,620 students have opted for this college. It is the only college in Kerala which offers a course in Textile Technology. It is also the only college in the district which offers a course in Civil Engineering.
