Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Concerned over Unemployment Rate of Engineering Graduates: Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy has announced a substantial reform initiative in the state's education sector, asserting that education serves as the most crucial "weapon" against poverty. This commitment follows alarming statistics revealing that out of the hundreds of thousands of engineering graduates produced annually, fewer than 10% can secure employment. Reddy attributed this high unemployment rate to a structural crisis within higher education, leading to an oversupply of graduates who lack essential employability skills.
Reddy underscored that the existing education system fails to equip students with the competencies necessary to thrive in a global economy. In response, the state intends to roll out a new education policy designed to enhance the quality of instruction and ensure that students gain skills that are relevant to the job market. The Chief Minister called for radical reforms to realign Telangana's education system with international standards, aiming to transform it into a vital instrument for poverty alleviation and social change. This educational overhaul will be a part of the state's long-term vision, encapsulated in the strategic document "Telangana Rising 2047."
To effectuate these changes, the state has begun several initiatives, including the recruitment and promotion of teachers, coupled with managing teacher transfers to improve the student-teacher ratio. Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are set to be upgraded into Advanced Technology Centers, while a Young India Skills University will focus on integrating vocational training into mainstream education. Furthermore, a dedicated Education Corporation will be established to allocate funds for infrastructure improvements and enhance educational standards.
Reddy has called upon educationists to form sub-committees to provide insightful recommendations for the new policy framework. The Chief Minister aims for this policy to serve as a national benchmark, combining language development, foundational knowledge, and essential skills to empower Telangana's youth, ultimately positioning education as a pillar of social justice and competitive growth.
