September 14, 2025 | 9:05 PM IST | Telangana Fee Reimbursement Issue; Over 2,000 Private Professional Colleges to Shut Down from September 15 onwards
September 14, 2025 | 8:42 PM IST | There is no change in the decision. All private colleges in Telangana will shut down from September 15 onwards. Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Education Institutions (FATHI) set September 21 as the deadline for the government to clear reimbursement dues. The strike does not apply to Junior Inter colleges. Only engineering, pharmacy, mba, mca and degree (UG/ PG) colleges shall be on indefinite strike. Over 2,000 private colleges will remain shutdown from September 15 onwards.
September 14, 2025 | 2:19 PM IST | Private colleges in Telangana will remain closed from September 15 onwards till the time the Government releases at least half of the reimbursement dues. Almost 1,800 crore dues are pending with regard to the fee reimbursement scheme.
The reimbursement of tuition fee (RTF) for the reserved category candidates and minority students has been pending for a long time, which amounts to thousands of crores. As per the report, many technical colleges have been solely dependent on RTF for survival. Hence, the college management brought up the issue of releasing 12 crore dues immediately with the budgetary allocations and with the establishment of the Fee Funding Bank. However, the government did not take any action or respond till now.
This repercussion pushed the Telangana colleges to close the colleges, since it's hard to deal with the prolonged financial crisis, staff and faculty remuneration (that too for the last few months). Consequently, the teachers are now not agreeing to fulfil their duties as well, and the students are getting affected by the same.
Nonetheless, without addressing the issue, the government has organised a meeting with the vice chancellors to implement the facial recognition-based attendance system. In this regard, the colleges mentioned that September 15, 2025, is marked as the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visveswaraya, which will also be considered as the black day to register their protest. Also, there is a chance of observing a strike by the degree and post-graduate colleges on September 16, 2025, for issuing the long-overdue fees.
