The Indian Institute Of Entrepreneurship (IIE) celebrated its 23rd Foundation Day on April 2 at the institute premises. Noted Economist Dr. Jayanta Madhab honoured the occasion as the Chief Guest. Among the other guests were Dr D Mali, Former IIE Director and former faculties Dr. S K Saikia.
Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. The main aim of the institute is to provide training, research and consultancy activities in Small and Micro Enterprises (SME),with a special focus on entrepreneurship development. The Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) registered under the Societies Registration Act,1860 was established in the year 1993 in Guwahati by the erstwhile Ministry of Industry (now the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), Government of India.
Manoj Kumar Das, Director of IIE, highlighted that in the last one year, the institute has seen many changes after it was placed under the newly created ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship from May 2015. The new ministry is guiding the youths in the development of skills and creation of an entrepreneurship culture among them.
Das, in his speech, said, “As more than 60 percent of India’s population are youths and as only 4.5 percent of the total population from skilled manpower, it’s a gigantic task before the policy makers, government, and society to keep them engaged in gainful activities. Only and entrepreneurial society will be able to innovate, create enterprises and add value to foster development and provide a sustainable livelihood for so many people.”
On the occasion, Dr. Madhab shared his entrepreneurial experiences with the students highlighting his focus on how, he as a country manager for South Korea, saw a country rise from an impoverished, underdeveloped nation to a developed one. He further added when he visited South Korea for the first time, they used to bow to Indians as they came from a great country. Today, Korean goods have invaded the automobiles, white goods, and telecommunications sector and made a niche in the Indian market. “A mantra and hunger for achievement, coupled with dedicated leadership can make a nation great”, he said.
