UPES Conducts 13th Round Table Conference

Oil & Gas HR Round Table provided just the right platform for the oil and gas HR professionals to focus on examining the issues of retaining and repositioning the oil and gas sector as an attractive talent destination and develop an action plan & the way forward.

Prof. Utpal Ghosh, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, UPES, steered the proceedings of the round table. Prof. Ghosh shared his thoughts on the world economic scenario and how it has impacted the global oil and gas business. Sharing his thoughts on the current Indian economic outlook, Prof. Ghosh talked about the vast expectations of the society from the new government. He concluded by narrating two events that happened for the first time in the history of the oil industry in India. “First, under the ages of Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited, for the first time in India, we have created crude storage of five million metric tons spread over three locations in Vizag, Mangalore and Padur. These are rock caverns that have been dug to store crude and are likely to be commissioned in this financial year. Second, for the first time ever we have a lady in the capacity of chief executive officer (CEO) of the public sector unit oil major,” he said.

Emphasis needs to be given to the segmentation of employability on the basis of execution and engagement. Based on this model, the oil industry falls under the segment of build for tomorrow. The session also emphasized the importance of innovative practices and its impact on attraction and retention of good talent.
