VIT University celebrated University Day and Annual Sports Day on 26th April’16 i.e. tuesday.

T.B.Jayachandra, Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Higher Education, Karnataka attended the event and said that “they had decided to convene a conference of higher education ministers of all States and Union Minister for Human Resource Development in Bengaluru soon to solve the problems related to higher education in the country”. He also said that there is a need for policy makers at the Centre and State level to take steps to stop brain drain in the country.

“The Gross Enrolment Ratio in India was 24 per cent, and this should be increased to at least 50 per cent by 2020, according to a press release. I want universities and colleges to offer skill development programmes so that students can become employable,” he said.

VIT Chancellor G. Viswanathan also shared his views and said, “I want regulatory bodies in education to be enablers, and not controllers of higher education in India. Colleges and universities should be allowed to start courses in areas where there is demand”.

V. Viswanathan, head, Engineering Hiring, Wipro presented the sports awards on the occasion. Gold medals were presented to the meritorious students.

Anubhav Srivastava, B.Tech Mechanical, bagged the Chancellor’s gold medal for best outgoing student.
