Over 13,000 students from the Kolhapur district appeared for the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) of the first year engineering, pharmacy and health sciences courses. Kolhapur District collectorate officials said the exam was conducted peacefully and without any kind of hassle across the designated 34 examination centres in the city.

Over 1,200 officials were appointed for smooth conduct of the exam and the officials did not receive any complaint from any exam centre in the city. In the combined exam, students appearing for engineering outnumbered their medical counterparts.

Experts said a score of 135 and above in the MHT-CET would be good enough to bag a seat in an 'A' grade engineering college and 170 and above would place the student in a government medical college. While the uncertainty of the test still looms large over medical aspirants, students said that attention was also slightly diverted towards what the apex court had to say on Thursday regarding the validity of this test.

"Over 7,000 students appeared for Biology paper, while 13,974 students appeared for Physics and Chemistry paper, followed by 9,853 students for Mathematics. The state government has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court on Monday seeking exemption from the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). A total of 4.09 lakh students appeared for MHT-CET in the state on Thursday. Of these, 1.4 lakh are medical aspirants and the remaining 2.7 lakh have either opted for engineering or both."
