AICTE Directs 35 Polytechnic Colleges to Shift to Permanent Campus

According to the new directive issued by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), 35 polytechnics across the country, which have been operating through a temporary campus, are directed to shift to the permanent campus within two years of the grant of approval. The notice is not only applicable to 35 polytechnics but also for the colleges that will be approved by AICTE further.

As per the directions of MHRD, AICTE will visit the new engineering or polytechnic colleges to assess the readiness in terms of equipment, labs and classrooms within two years for considering granting approval.

AICTE further directed the polytechnic and engineering colleges to present their case on February 16, 2018, before a standing hearing committee constituted for the purpose.

The demand for polytechnic courses in India is slowly gaining momentum, particularly in Southern states like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Many students from these states prefer joining Polytechnics after Class 10. More changes for the employment and the demand for diploma holders in polytechnic are the prime reasons for the high demand for polytechnic courses.

Recently, AICTE has also directed the technical institutes to display accreditation status on their respective websites. All the information pertaining to the college must be made available on the public platform, i.e., official websites of the institutes.

The revised engineering curriculum released by AICTE recently will improve the quality of engineering and technical education in the country. Students will be able to obtain relevant skills due to mandatory internship programme.
