Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) emphasised that there is a need to enhance the quality of education in all the educational institutes so that at least 10-20 institutes will be among top 100 institutes in global rankings. For this purpose, the institutes have to build up a healthy competition and compete with other institutes to achieve global ranks.

Addressing the students at the convocation ceremony of Jadavpur University, he stressed that India needs a strategy through which the quality of education can be enhanced. He further added that the setting up of National Institutional Ranking Framework or NIRF is the first step to enhance the quality of education in higher learning institutes. The institutes must give more importance to research to achieve global ranks.

He pointed that there are more than 780 universities and 50,000 government and private higher learning institutes in India and all these institutes together produced 21, 830 PhD graduates in the year 2015 which is a good sign.
