The All India Institute for Technical Education has been helping students set up their own businesses rather than just focusing on job opportunities. While addressing the audience at the convocation of Kumaraguru College of Technology, Dilip Malkhede, AICTE Advisor said that AICTE is focusing more on activities such as incubation centre and to promote several entrepreneurship activities. They have also started initiatives like providing funds to SC/ST students to initiate their own start-ups and set up their own businesses. In addition, according to the model curriculum introduced in early 2018, students will be expected to do more experiential learning rather than rote learning.

He further informed that AICTE has introduced courses on entrepreneurship which are offered by universities as a part of their curriculum.

Malkhede also talked about the AICTE’s decision to change the teacher-student ratio. Earlier the ratio in the technical institutions was 1:15 and now it is 1: 20, due to AICTE's decision to reduce the number of credits from 190 to 160, to reduce the number of teachers required at any given institution. They have decreased the number of credits due to which they require a lesser number of teachers. However, he also said that in case institutions require more teachers, they are free to get new faculty as well.

However, they are yet to take the final decision on this matter.
