The new executive committee of the Assam Academy of Mathematics held its first sitting at the Mathematics Department, Gauhati University, recently. The meeting discussed many important topics in Mathematics and adopted several important resolutions.
The meeting was chaired by its President, Dr. Prabin Das and was attended by a few past presidents and general secretaries including Founder President Dr. Buddha Prasad Chetia and Founder General Secretary Dr. Tarakeswar Chaudhary.
The resolutions taken at the meeting included the exclusion of Class 12 from the ambit of Olympiad, and putting Class 10, 11 and 12 in the same bracket. It was also proposed that Matheletics would now be held in a single category comprising only Class 9 and 10. The extension of Mathematics to undergraduate level in the future was also proposed.
This meeting considered forming a new financial committee along with holding a residential mathematical orientation course at Chapter area. A talent search committee was formed with Dr. Prabin Das as a convenor.
In addition, a resolution was adopted for publication of a compilation of articles on Asomor Ganit Shikshar Itihas to be edited by Dr. BP Chetia.
