BIMTECH's Workshop on Generative AI for Inclusive Higher Education: The Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) recently hosted a five-day "Train the Trainer" workshop focused on Inclusive Higher Education. This event was organized in collaboration with the Centre of Education for All (BCall) and was part of the EU-funded Project AIDEdu. The workshop aimed to promote digitized, inclusive, and accessible management education in India and Nepal, in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4, 10, and 17. Participants from Spain, Austria, Latvia, Nepal, and India attended the workshop, which included sessions on topics such as disability and inclusion, universal design for learning, and the integration of generative AI into teaching and learning processes.
The workshop featured a session titled "How to Integrate Generative AI into Teaching and Learning Processes," led by Dr. Javier Fernández Molina and Dr. Mario Guillo from the University of Alicante in Spain. Dr. Himanshi Tiwari, Project Lead at BIMTECH, presented strategies and examples of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), which BCall aims to explore further for its application in Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The workshop served as a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and strategic planning, allowing participants to gain insights into best practices from European Union countries for promoting inclusive education.
The workshop covered various topics, including understanding disability and inclusion, constitutional values and duties for inclusion, and competencies and tools for developing inclusive education. Participants experimented with generative AI applications to enhance inclusivity, engagement, and effectiveness in teaching and learning. Dr. Prabina Rajib, Director of BIMTECH, emphasized the importance of building the capacities of educators on inclusive education, which was the key focus of the workshop.
BCall, BIMTECH's pioneering initiative for Education for All, aims to become a regional leader in inclusive education. Equipped with advanced assistive technologies, BCall is designed as a model centre of educational inclusion. The workshop marked a significant milestone in advancing inclusive education in India and Nepal, and its outcomes are expected to contribute to the development of more inclusive and accessible higher education systems.
