British Council and NEC Sign Pact for Educational and Cultural Collaboration

British Council of India and North Eastern Council has signed a pact for strengthening educational and cultural ties. The MoU between the two institutions will support and promote higher education and English language skills in the Northeastern states.

British Council of India and North Eastern Council (NEC) have signed a pact to strengthen the education system in the eight states of the North East. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Alan Gemmell, Director, British Council India and S Anthony, Director, North Eastern Council.

The MoU between the two institutions will support and promote higher education and English language skills in the Northeastern states. It will also help young people achieve their cultural aspirations.

According to the official statement, the association between the two will help in enhancing the English language skills of Civil Servants of the state and will also support the education system and teaching of capacity building programmes such as Science and Mathematics. This will help to increase the overall student and academic mobility of the North-Eastern region.

Alan Gemmell OBE, Director of the British Council in India said that their efforts have made a huge difference in the state in the past two years. They have trained over 48 football coaches of all the eight states, organised the Chelsea Flower Show and others.

While talking about the MoU he said their main aim is to help more young people to realise their dreams in sectors and areas such as arts, culture, education etc.

Through this association, British Council will provide training to 1600 teachers of the eight northeastern states in subjects such as Science, English and Mathematics for over 10 months. The project will start in November and the academicians of the British Council will train the teachers of the states.
