The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced a new scheme on 5th July 2021 entailing several changes in the academic year of 2021-22. As per the new CBSE Scheme, the upcoming academic year will be divided into two terms with the examinations for Term 1 taking place in the month of November. According to the Board, these changes are to increase the probability of board-conducted exams for the 12th and 10th class at the end of the academic year.

Changes Brought Through the New CBSE Scheme 2021-22

Changes in the Academic Year 2021-22:

  • This academic session will be divided into two equal halves.

  • Subject experts will be looking into the interconnectivity of topics and concepts to follow a systematic approach.

  • At the end of each term, the Board will be conducting examinations. For the first term, the exams will be taking place in November.

Changes in the Syllabus:

  • For the 2022 board exams, the syllabus will be rationalised like that of the last session.

  • CBSE schools are to follow the syllabus and curriculum released on 31st March by CBSE for academic transactions.

  • The schools will be using inputs from the NCERT and alternative academic calendars on transacting the curriculum.

  • The exams for each term will be taken on the basis of the bifurcated syllabus.

Changes in the CBSE Curriculum Transaction:

  • Until the authorities allow the in-person or offline modes of teaching, schools will continue teaching online or in distance mode.
  • The board will work towards making the project work, practicals and internal assessments mode valid and credible as per the moderation policy ensuring fair marks distribution.
  • The internal assessment for the 9th and 10th class (for both Term I and II) would include student enrichment, portfolio, periodic tests, and speaking listening activities/ practical work/ project.
  • For Class 12 and 11, on the other hand, it would entail exploratory activities/ end of topic or unit tests/ projects/ practicals.
  • Student profiles will be created by schools for assessment undertaken and the evidence will be retained in a digital format. The board facilitates schools to post the internal assessment marks on the IT platform of CBSE.
