Centre to Include Urdu in NEET from 2018

Currently, NEET is being conducted in ten languages and Student Islamic Organization (SIO) has been demanding for the inclusion of Urdu as one of the mediums in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for UG medical and dental courses.

On March 10, 2017, the Centre told the Supreme Court that it would include Urdu in NEET from the next year, i.e., 2018. It also clarified that it will not be possible to conduct NEET-UG 2017 in Urdu medium this year. Solicitor General Ranjith Kumar representing the Centre told the bench that there is a no feasibility to hold NEET in Urdu medium for the current academic year.

Earlier, the bench fixed a deadline until March 22, 2017, for Centre, Dental Council of India, Medical Council of India and Central Board of Secondary Education to file their response on the inclusion of Urdu in NEET. The petition filed by Student Islamic Organisation (SIO) will come for further hearing on March 26, 2017.

Currently, NEET is being conducted in ten languages and the Student Islamic Organization (SIO) has been demanding the inclusion of Urdu as one of the mediums in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for UG medical and dental courses.

On March 3, 2017, Supreme Court directed CBSE, DCI, MCI and Centre to file their response on the petition filed by SIO. Later, Medical Council of India responded that they would include any language in NEET as one of the mediums if states make a request to them.

Student Islamic Organisation (SIO) claimed that the state governments of Telangana and Maharashtra are supporting the inclusion of Urdu in NEET.

The application process and online corrections in the application form of NEET have been completed. The examination is going to take place on May 7, 2017.
