It is a story of two brothers and sons of a daily wage worker hailing from interior villages of UP and cracking IIT Bombay that got the most of the newspapers’ front page coverage recently.
19 years old Brijesh Saroj and his brother Raju got high ranks on the JEE Merit list-167 and 410. Earlier the brothers were faced the challenge of putting together Rs 1 lakh but once the case was highlighted by a National Daily Newspaper in Bombay, the help poured in from the globe. Also, the Union human resource development (HRD) ministry gave them a fee waiver.
The brothers hails from a city from Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh and While Brijesh has chosen engineering physics at IIT-Bombay, Raju will pursue electronics and electrical communication engineering at IIT-Kharagpur.
As the charisma of Mumbai is known to every Indian, the proud son of UP were equally excited to see the glamour of Mumbai.
Brijesh, who arrived in Mumbai recently is living with his uncle in Govandi. Out of the funds, the brothers saved some set-aside Rs 2 lakh for the education of children in their village.
“I have adopted 10 children. I hope they will excel and each will adopt 10 more, thus creating a chain for a well-established education system in my village, said Brijesh to a leading TV news channel.
Brijesh will report at IIT-Bombay soon to complete admission formalities.
"After completing my degree, I want to earn money the right way and want to give back to society. I already have a few friends studying at the IITs. I want to bring them all together and form a group where each one will help the other in the development of villages and districts. We can ensure that students in these areas get the best opportunities and are motivated for studies, he added further.
