Draft Indian National University Bill Goes Online for Public Views
The Ministry of Defence will review the suggestions and comments from the public on the Draft Bill which is followed by approval of the Cabinet.
The Draft Indian National University Bill, 2015 has gone online on Mygov.in portal and website of Defence Ministry for six weeks for public responses, views and consultations. The bill proposes to establish world-class autonomous institutions of national importance for training and research in military studies. The project will be implemented in three phases spreading over a period of ten years at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,072 crore.

The land for the establishment of Defence University was granted in September 2012 at Manesar in Gurgaon district. The development of infrastructure on the acquired land commenced in December 2015.
The University will operate as a teaching and Affiliate University for the existing training institutes of the three Services which will develop higher education in National Security Studies. The idea is to promote research on all aspects related to national security, both internal and external.

The Bill also facilitates Distance Learning Programmes for personnel deployed in the far-flung area. The university governs by its norms and promotes interaction and coordination between armed forces and other Government Agencies.
