DU to Introduce 5-year Journalism Programme & PG Diploma in Cyber Security

DU’s Standing Committee on Admissions has given its nod for establishing a School of Journalism. The announcement was made on Friday, June 9. The Committee also announced that the University of Delhi will also be offering a year-long postgraduate (PG) diploma course in Cyber Security.

The decision is yet to be approved by the Academic Council (AC) and Executive Councils (EC) of DU. However, if approved, the decisions will be implemented from the academic year 2017.

The committee has also approved the establishment of the School of Transnational Affairs. It is a virtual portal where academicians of different domains can interact with their counterparts across the globe.

A member of the committee, Nachiketa Singh, informed that DU will soon be starting a five-year integrated programme in journalism.

On completing three years of the programme, students will be awarded a graduate degree. Whereas on completing all 5 years, they will be given a postgraduate degree, Singh added.

He also informed that a separate building will be established for the School of Journalism that will probably be in the North Campus of DU. Separate faculty will also be appointed for the school.

The school will operate from a temporary location by the time the new building is completed. Delhi University also has the funds ready for developing the centre.

On the other hand, the cyber security course will be offered collaboratively by the Department of Computer Science, Department of Operational Research, Department of Commerce and some other departments. These details will be straightened out in the AC meeting that will be over by the end of June.
