DUTA writes to Javadekar about the Shortage of Teachers in Delhi University
Thousands of posts of teachers have been lying vacant. The government has promised to fill 4,500 vacancies but hasn’t carried forward.
The Delhi University Teachers’ Association wrote to the newly appointed HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar regarding the shortage of teachers in Delhi University.
The president of DUTA, Nandita Narain mentioned that the number of students in the Delhi University has been considerably increasing since 2007 as the number of seats for OBC has increased. Thousands of posts of teachers have been lying vacant. The government has promised to fill 4,500 vacancies but hasn’t carried forward.
She also pointed that the student-teacher ratio is not sustainable and this has been affecting the teaching and the global ranking of University. The classes were extremely crowd which affects the teaching and learning the process. The promotions for most of the teachers haven’t been promoted since 2008. Most of the teachers are working as guest lecturers.
She also explained that the teachers have been working in highly humiliating conditions who have been struggling salary, vacation, and increments. The teachers have been working in uncertain conditions and have to seek renewal for every four months.
The DUTA have been boycotting the evaluation and admission process at University for the past few days. They have been protesting against the new UGC norms to ascertain their academic performance.
