Free Winter Schooling Scheme Working Wonders in Jammu and Kashmir

Under the newly announced winter schooling scheme, around 37, 000 students from the picturesque valley of Gool of Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir are being benefitted. It is one of the remote areas of the state which is covered with snow at most of the time of the year.

Since the winter vacation of these schools begun on January 1, 2017, the student from both government and private schools have been attending the free coaching classes. Students attending the coaching classes are from the class 8th to class 12th.

The scheme was started by Jammu and Kashmir Education department. Naim Akhter, the education minister of the state said that not only students from the marginal classes are benefitted, even students from rich families are also attending the classes and are gaining knowledge through this scheme.

The initiative of the education department has been highly appreciated by the students, parents as well as general public. Special arrangement for heating of the school classrooms is being done through the local school funds, keeping the harsh climatic conditions in mind.

Mohammed Sharief Chauhan, Chief Education Officer of Ramban district said that as many as 723 teachers have been deployed for teaching around 37,000 students in government higher secondary and high schools during the two-month winter vacations. These schools are located in the six educational zones of the Ramban district.

The Winter Schooling Scheme has become a respite for the students, especially after the Jammu and Kashmir government imposed a ban on the conduct of private tuitions by government teachers.
