Government Urges Engineering Institutes to Register for Smart India Hackathon by December 15

The Government of India has urged the engineering colleges in Ghaziabad and Greater Noida to participate in ‘Smart India Hackathon 2018’ by December 15, 2017. The main objective of the hackathon is to encourage students to showcase their skills and provide valuable inputs for the ‘Digital India’ initiative. The concept of conducting a hackathon to boost ‘Digital India’ initiative was presented in 2016.

As a part of ‘Smart India Hackathon 2018’, more than 45 ministers along with their respective departments will directly engage with the technical students and challenge them to develop applications to prevent plug revenue leakages and corruption and measure efficiency. The government has urged all the technical institutes to share the details of the hackathon with students.

Vice Chancellor of AKTU, Dr. Vinay Pathak called all the students of varsity and affiliated institutes to apply or register for the hackathon and exhibit their talent at the national level. On November 30, 2017, a meeting was convened with the representatives of state universities. Representatives from 70 private colleges also took part in the meeting. During the meeting, all the institutes and universities were encouraged to engage students in ‘Smart India Hackathon 2018’.

An engineering student from AICTE/UGC-recognised institute can take part in Smart India Hackathon 2018. December 15, 2017, is the last date to apply for the event and applications can be filled through the official website of the hackathon. Students must organise themselves into a group comprising of six members to take part in the hackathon. The winning group will be awarded Rs. 1,00,000 as the cash prize, followed by Rs. 75,000 for first runner-up team and Rs. 50,000 for second runner-up team.
