Govt. Allocates Rs. 100 Crore for Modernisation of NIT-Srinagar
Govt. has also allocated Rs. 50 crore for the construction of three new hostels in Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu.
Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Human Resource and Development announced that the government has allocated Rs. 100 crore for the modernisation ofNational Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar. He also revealed that Rs. 50 crore has been allotted for the construction of three new hostels in Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu.

He also mentioned that the seven hostels would be constructed for the convenience of girl students. Out of them, three hostels would be built at Jammu, three in Ladakh and three in Valley. Javadekar expressed his happiness as the government has taken a positive step so that everybody gets an equal opportunity for higher education.

NIT Srinagar was established in the year 1960 as the Regional Engineering College. In the year 2003, the college was upgraded as NIT-Srinagar. The institute was granted deemed university status in the same year by UGC & AICTE. The institute was recognized as the Institute of National Importance under the NIT Bill passed by the Parliament of India on August 15, 2007.
