50 Govt. Degree Colleges Sanctioned in Jammu & Kashmir
The State Administrative Council of Jammu and Kashmir has given a nod for the construction and setting up of 50 new government degree colleges in the state. Apart from that, schools have also been upgraded.
Amidst unrest and anarchy in Jammu & Kashmir, it’s State Administrative Council approved the inception of 10 more Govt. Degree Colleges in remote areas of the valley. J&K SAC also approved the upgradation of around 228 schools in both Jammu & Kashmir division. The SAC under the leadership of Chairman Governor Satya Pal Malik aims at completing the task by the year 2021.
A committee has been formed with officials from Higher Education & School Education Departments and Administrative Secretaries of Planning who will submit a report regarding accomplishable requirements needed for the construction of college buildings. The committee will be headed by Principal Finance Secretary.

According to the prescribed plan, districts like Baramulla, Bandipora, Doda, Kupwara, Rajouri, Jammu, Kastigarh, Kralpora, Ghagwal, Dharhal etc. are expected to receive new establishments for the new Govt. degree colleges. In all, 50 Govt. degree colleges have been approved so far by the State Administrative Council (SAC). These colleges in the underdeveloped areas of J&K will provide the underprivileged an access to higher education and boost the literacy rate in the valley.
In a similar development, 228 schools have also been upgraded in the Jammu & Kashmir division. 87 High schools have been elevated to Higher Secondary Schools while around 140 middle schools have been revamped to High School level. Mallan Dessa Tehsil, a Govt. Lower High School in Doda, have also been upgraded to High School.

School Education Department also received notifications from SAC to chalk out methods in response to imbalanced Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR) in big towns and cities with respect to average PTR of the state.
