TheHigh Court of Maharashtrahas dismissed the petition challenging theLAWCETwhich was conducted in Maharashtra on18thand 19-June-2016. The petition has been filed byShalini Kotian, a law student that the state didn’t have any power to conduct CET.

The lawyer of Shalini,Pradnya Talekarargued that the government hadn’t given adequate time to prepare for the examination. She also argued that the syllabus and the lit of the examiners were not transparent.

It has been argued by the government lawyer that theCETwas introduced through a notification under Maharashtra Universities Act and the examination is applicable for the admission into both government and private junior colleges. The state has also notified the dates and pattern of examination in advance and the court can’t declare the entire process as invalid. The government has taken the advice of Bar Council of India before issuing the notification.

TheCETfor the admission into has been introduced this year in Maharashtra. The examination received a positive response.
