The High Court of Maharashtra has dismissed the petition challenging the LAWCET which was conducted in Maharashtra on 18th and 19-June-2016. The petition has been filed by Shalini Kotian, a law student that the state didn’t have any power to conduct CET.
The lawyer of Shalini, Pradnya Talekar argued that the government hadn’t given adequate time to prepare for the examination. She also argued that the syllabus and the lit of the examiners were not transparent.
It has been argued by the government lawyer that the CET was introduced through a notification under Maharashtra Universities Act and the examination is applicable for the admission into both government and private junior colleges. The state has also notified the dates and pattern of examination in advance and the court can’t declare the entire process as invalid. The government has taken the advice of Bar Council of India before issuing the notification.
The CET for the admission into has been introduced this year in Maharashtra. The examination received a positive response.
