ICAR Ranks GADVASU Ludhiana as India’s Best Veterinary University
- There are 14 Veterinary state universities in the country, out of which GADVASU of Ludhiana bagged the first rank.
- Vice-Chancellor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary University, .Dr. Amarjit Nanda credited the achievement to the faculty members, staff and students.
Indian Council of Agricultural Research has ranked Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University or GADVASU as India’s best veterinary university for the year 2016-17. There are 14 Veterinary state universities in the country, out of which GADVASU of Ludhiana has bagged the first rank. The major objective of ICAR behind giving rankings to the veterinary universities is to improve the quality and standards of education in India. ICAR wants Indian agricultural universities to compete at a global level.

ICAR framed separate parameters for rankings including: -
- Technologies generated and transferred to farmers
- Patents
- Research publications and citations
- Student placements
- Faculty and student profile
- Resources generated and linkages
Vice-Chancellor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary University, Dr. Amarjit Nanda credited the achievement to the faculty members, staff and students. He appreciated the efforts in the form of significant contributions to the veterinary and farming community.

Dr. Amarjit Nanda also indicated that GADVASU has emerged successful in a short period of about 11 years. GADVASU has made vital contributions in livestock research, teaching and extension. He also shared that the varsity had signed bilateral memoranda of understanding with 10 international agencies and 50 national agencies to strengthen and promote research in fisheries, dairy and veterinary sectors. The research output of the varsity has also been satisfactory since 2006.
The government of India has to provide adequate funding to the Indian varsities for promoting research. Indian institutes and varsities must find a spot among the top 200 institutes across the globe.
