IGNOU Offers Free Admission to Acid Attack Survivors
IGNOU provides free admission to acid attack survivors in Food and Nutrition certificate course. The objective is to provide education to those from the marginalised section so that they can be brought in the mainstream of development.
IGNOU’s regional centre in Lucknow has decided to educate the 10 acid attack survivors who are currently working at the Sheroes Café in the state. Kirti Vikram Singh, Assistant Regional Director of the state informed that the varsity has provided admission to the survivors in a six-month certificate course in Food and Nutrition. The certificate course is offered free of cost.
Through this initiative, the university aims to provide education to the marginalised section so that they can build a successful career for themselves. The certificate course in Food and Nutrition will provide knowledge about the present day challenges in the respective field like food adulteration, consumer rights, environmental-friendly approaches and others.

Meanwhile, the centre also organised an awareness programme in the Sheroes Cafe to enlighten the survivors about the importance of education and skill development.
Manorama Singh, Regional Director IGNOU Lucknow further informed that counselling classes will also be organised in the cafe. These classes will provide survivors to gain knowledge while they are employed. The counselling session will be offered through Gyanvani FM Channel of IGNOU

Two of the acid attack survivors Aashma Praveen and Jeetu Sharma who work in the cafe also expressed their views about the course. They indicated that the course would be of great help in their present job and will also provide them with self-employment opportunities in the food sector.
