IISER to Hold 2-Day Consultation on National Mission on Quantum Technologies
To boost research on Quantum Technologies in India, IISER Trivandrum arranges for a consultation meeting. Dept of Science & Tech will hold the meeting consisting a panel of noted scientists of the sector.
The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research - IISER Thiruvananthapuram will be holding a two-day long consulting meeting on the national mission of developing more Quantum Technologies. The meeting will be held in the permanent campus located at Maruthamala, near Vithura.
The meeting began on November 5, 2019 at IISER. Along with the National Mission on Quantum Technologies, the topic of Applications of Quantum Technologies by the Department of Science and Technology will also be discussed in the meeting.
It is expected that a lot of eminent scientists from the pool of quantum technology, quantum communication and quantum computing of national and global fame will join the meeting at IISER. According to a press release issued by IISER Thiruvananthapuram, the meeting will be attended by the delegates of the institute’s science and technology department. The director of the mission, Dr K Murali Mohan will also be present in the meeting.

Quantum technologies is a comparatively new addition to the information technology and other computing sectors. It has a lot of potential to increase the processor clock speed of current day processors and nano-chips. The computing through Quantum Technology can replace current day ‘bits’ with Quantum bits or Qbits which are smaller in size but greater in computing capabilities. It depends on the quantum clocking system which are similar to 1 & 0 in binary coding. Two highest performing supercomputers in India, Mihir and Pratyush are based on quantum computing-based algorithms.

Quantum technology is being held as the future of computing globally. In India, the research on the Quantum mechanism is comparatively slow. It is expected that the initiative of IISER will spread more awareness on Quantum Mechanism among innovators and researchers.
