IIT Bombay to Promote Scientific Research among School Students
- IIT Bombay’s student outreach programme is encouraging school students to take up scientific research as a career option.
- The institute is planning to host at least 50-60 school or college students once in a month.
IIT Bombayhas begun an outreach programme through which school students will have an opportunity to tour the outstanding labs of the premier institute once a month. The main purpose of theoutreach programmeis to makesciencepopular among school students. Through the outreach programme, students will get a unique chance to see the research activities of theIIT Bombay scholars.

Since February 2018, IIT Bombay has hosted two groups of school students for the outreach programme. These students were introduced to research activities at IIT Bombay. Over 40 Class 11 students from migrant schools inJammu & Kashmirvisited the IIT Bombay campus along with their teachers. The Ph.D scholars of the premier institute interacted with the students and briefed them about research work. Later, students were taken to science andsky watching workshops.
In March 2018, Class 11 students fromBombay Scottish Schoolspent an afternoon at IIT Bombay. The purpose of the students’ visit was to have a glance at the laboratories of IIT Bombay. On the other hand, students also conducted some experiments at the labs and also interacted with the faculty members over there.

Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering Department at IIT Bombay, Mr. Abhijit Majumder supervised the students’ visit. He revealed that the premier institute is planning to launch a fully fledged year-longstudent outreach programme. The institute will aim to host 50-60 school or college students per month. The outreach programme will encourage students to take up scientific research as a career option, he highlighted.
