IIT Bombay: 2nd Phase of Placements Witness Fewer Companies & Less Job Offers

So far, two Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) took part in the placements. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited have recruited a total number of five students in the second phase.

The second phase of placements atIndian Institute of Technology, Bombayor IIT-B is in the process, though at a comparatively lesser pace. In the last three weeks, only 11 companies visited the campus for recruiting the students and out of them nine companies made a total number of 33 offers, and the rest did not make any job offers. The second phase of placements will continue till July 2017.

So far, two Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) took part in the placements. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited have recruited a total number of five students in the second phase. The students are expecting more PSUs to take part in the placements in the days to come. One of the students expressed that most of the students are keen on joining PSUs as they offer attractive packages.

One of the senior professors of IIT Bombay expressed that the second phase of placements usually grows at a snail pace across all IITs. Last year, a total number of 80 companies took part in the second phase of placements and recruited 128 students. The placements which started in February 2016 continued until July 20, 2016. He further indicated that they are expecting another 50 companies that will join the recruitment process.

Apart from the two PSUS, various software firms, financial consultancy, digital solutions and technology services companies also took part in the placements.

PSUs made a re-entry after they got an approval from the Madras High Court in the year 2016. PSUs did not take part in the first phase placements that were held in December 2016. However, in the second phase, a total number of three companies offered 20 jobs to students across various IITs, and the base salary package offered was of Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh per annum.
