IIT-Kharagpur Opens Facebook Page on Pichai

<p>&ldquo;Congratulations Sir, You have been an inspiration. Not just IITians but every Indian can dream and strive to follow your footstep now that you have shown we can,&rdquo; writes one visitor on the Facebook page created by IIT Kharagpur.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Kharagpur on Tuesday opened a Facebook page to congratulate its alumnus Sundar Pichai after taking over as the CEO of Google's core business.

The page "congratulate KGPian Sundar Pichai, CEO - Google", contains a photo of a smiling Pichai with the date August 11 displayed by its side.

&ldquo;This event is to run a campaign to congratulate KGP alumnus Sundar Pichai on becoming the CEO of Google. We will forward this to Mr. Pichai. Write your short message to Mr. Pichai on the Event Timeline,&rdquo; said the page hosts.

Already several thousand guests had visited the page and messages are pouring forth.
"Congratulations Sundar. You are an inspiration for IITKGP students and the whole IITKGP family is proud of you. Wish you the very best!" posted institute director P.P. Chakrabarti on his Facebook.

Pichai has worked at Google since it went public in 2004, most recently as the senior vice president of products.

He is the second person of Indian origin to head a major IT company after Hyderabad-born Satya Nadella who became CEO of software giant Microsoft in February 2014, succeeding Steve Ballmer.
