IIT Madras and Portescap Collaborate to Create Medical Innovation Using Robotics
IIT Madras and Portescap Collaborate to work on a new project which aims to focus on constructing a rehabilitation robot, the Arm Rehabilitation Robot (AREBO), to help patients with arm problems.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has tied the knot with the Motion Technology Firm Portescap to work on a new project that will create medical innovation based on robotics for rehabilitation. The collaboration will be facilitating the initiative, which seeks to focus on developing an innovative rehabilitation robot, Arm Rehabilitation Robot (AREBO), to assist patients with arm disabilities.

About Arm Rehabilitation Robot (AREBO)
AREBO ( Arm Rehabilitation Robot) is a six-degrees-of-freedom robot used to teach individuals with neurological and musculoskeletal diseases such as arthritis, cerebral palsy, and Parkinson's disease, among others.
This robot's design allows it to be readily linked to a user's left or right arm and provides safe arm training.

Sujatha Srinivasan, Faculty Head, TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2) at IIT Madras, and Professor Sivakumar Balasubramanian, CMC Vellore, are the project's leaders.
Srinivasan highlighted the unique characteristics of this partnership, saying, "The project uses R2D2's skills in creating and bringing to market effective and cheap devices for movement handicap, while also drawing on CMC's bioengineering and clinical knowledge." CSR-funded research and development expenses are critical to achieving the ultimate objective of bringing high-quality technologies to market at reasonable rates."
