Usually, PISA test takes place for every three years. The government of India in the year 2012 and 2015 officially boycotted the test and the reason was its miserable performance in the year 2009. However, Prakash Javadekar has given a clarity over the fact that India will take part in PISA in the year 2021 and, the government will apply for the same next year.

Currently, the government requested the Organisation for Economic Cooperation Development (OECD) to conduct PISA-like assessment tests for the students studying in Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalayas. The main objective of the government is to familiarise the students with the pattern of PISA test and make them ready to face PISA in the year 2021.
