A total number of 57 B.Ed colleges in Indore decided to shut down as Devi Ahilya Vishwavidhyalya, the affiliated university to all these colleges is going to conduct affiliation inspections. As soon as the announcement came from the varsity officials, all these 57 colleges unanimously decided to shut down for an indefinite period.

Directors of all the 57 B.Ed colleges and DAVV Vice-Chancellor Narendra Kumar assembled for a meeting. The VC announced that the varsity would conduct pre-affiliation inspections on their campuses. However, the directors of B.Ed colleges did not accept the move taken by the university and hence decided to remain closed until the varsity revoked its decision.

On the other hand, the directors claimed that the varsity has no right to carry out the inspection at their campuses and it will be illegal. They further added that half of the academic session was over and carrying out inspection is not correct as per university norms.

Around 4,000 students who are pursuing M.Ed and B.Ed course in these 57 colleges were shocked with the decision of their college managements.

Director of Indore Mahavidyalaya explained that VC of DAVV had tabled letters in the meeting citing that Bhopal and Gwalior Universities had conducted pre-affiliation inspections using special powers.

The directors of various institutes argued with the VC that only the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has the authority to hold inspections in B.Ed colleges and varsity does not have the power to interfere with the duties of NCTE.

On the other hand, VC clarified that the varsity would conduct inspections as per norms and it will not compromise in this regard.
