JEE Main 2016 Registrants Down by 1 lakh
Last year, 13.04 lakh aspirants registered for the JEE Main examination but this year, there is a fall in the number of registrants by almost 1 lakh.
Last year, 13.04 lakh aspirants registered for the JEE Main examination but this year, there is a fall in the number of registrants by almost 1 lakh. This year , the total number of registrants were 12.07 lakh. According to academic experts, the reason for this decline is the fading interest in engineering as a career option. This is for the second time in a row that there has been a decline in the number of candidates for JEE Main Examination. Last year, a decline of 50, 000 was noted in the number of registrants.
This is not all, for the state of Maharashtra, the case is even worse. This year only one third of the number of aspirants from last year have registered for the exam. The important reasons for the drop in JEE Main registrations may due to the state's decision to hold its own common entrance test (MHT-CET) for engineering admissions this year.
JEE Main is an all-India engineering entrance examination held by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). JEE Main is the gateway exam for admissions to centrally-funded technical institutions such as Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) and institutions in the participating states.
