Jindal Global Law School & WWF India Launch Masters Course in Environmental Law

Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) in collaboration with WWF India has introduced a Masters Programme in Environmental Law, Energy and Climate Change.

A Memorandum of Understanding regarding the same was signed between JGLS and WWF India on 27th March 2019. The MoU was signed in the presence of Supreme Court Justices Deepak Gupta and D Y Chandrachd and there were two judges from the Supreme Court of Hawaii, USA as well.

The Masters Programme in Environmental Law, Energy and Climate Change is open for law graduates who want to enhance their legal knowledge in the national and global environmental issues. The master’s course will also benefit the law professionals working in the field of environment.

Justice Chandrachud addressed the audience on the occasion and talked about the threats of climate change. He talked about one of the biggest problems of global warming -climate change. There has been an increase in the number of natural disasters due to climate change and deforestation.

He further spoke about the role of the judiciary in the environment. According to him the rule of law in environmental issues is seen as an aid in recognising the environmental problems and injustices faced by the vulnerable groups of the society. The environmental law empowers them and in today's' world ecological sustainability cannot exist without the law.

Justice Deepak Gupta highlighted the importance of environmental justice and awareness about the same in society to protect the environment. The environmental law is the need of the hour to fight the environmental problems and to save the country from climatic changes and its adverse effects.

Professor C Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor, JGU talked about the new Masters Programme in Environmental Law, Energy and Climate Change. According to him this course will not only educate the students but will also make them sensitive towards the environment.
