JNU Begins Recruitment Process for 300 Teaching Posts: Javadekar

According to sources, the recruitment process and interviews have commenced and it may take a couple of months to fill 300 vacant teaching positions. Therefore, if there were 970 Ph.D. and M.Phil students last year, the number will increase this year.

In a response to a question raised in Rajya Sabha during the Zero Hour, Prakash Javadekar, HRD Minister revealed that Jawaharlal Nehru University has begun the process of recruitment of 300 teachers. He also assured that the number of seats in Ph.D. and M.Phil programmes would increase in the next academic session. Javadekar further indicated that the vacant lecturer positions for Physically Handicapped/ SC/ ST categories have been vacant for the past few years.

According to sources, the recruitment process and interviews have commenced and it may take a couple of months to fill 300 vacant teaching positions. Therefore, if there were 970 Ph.D. and M.Phil students last year, the number will increase this year.

Sharad Yadav had raised the question regarding the teacher recruitment and seat cut. He indicated that mostly rural students come to JNU to pursue Ph.D. and M.Phil courses. Due to seat cut from 970 to 102, students have become desperate. Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, J. Kurien expressed that the response given by Javadekar is logical.

As of now, JNU has also begun the admission process for various courses. The admissions will be done as per the gazette notification issued by University Grants Commission.

The varsity also achieved a remarkable milestone by securing the second rank in NIRF Rankings 2017. The varsity has performed well in the area of research. HRD Minister Javadekar praised the varsity and indicated that Indian varsities have to give more importance to research.
