JNU Gets First Japanese Language Training Centre
The new language centre at Jawaharlal Nehru University will help expand the Japanese language and will also increase the employability of Indian professionals who wish to work in Japan and Japanese companies.
The first centre to teach the Japanese language opened at Jawaharlal Nehru University on July 23, 2018. This initiative is a joint effort of the Indian and Japanese government to promote and expand the Japanese language education in the country.
The Prime Ministers of both the countries, Shri Narendra Modi and Mr. Shinzo Abe understand the importance of promoting Japanese language education in India. This will help expand promote industrial cooperation.
The inauguration of the new language centre at JNU was done by Gen VK Singh, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. The initiative will establish Japanese language certificate courses at over 100 higher educational institutions in the country and will also offer training to 1000 Japanese language teachers in the period of next five years.

Ashok Chawla, Advisor (Japan), Ministry of External Affairs informed that the first batch will be of around 30 students and the duration of the course will be a total of 360 hours
Eligibility for JNU Japanese Language Course
- Candidates must have already studied the Japanese language for 500 hours to apply for the N2( intermediate level).
Kenko Sene, Economic Minister, Embassy of Japan said that to work in Japan or to work in a Japanese company the basic requirement for candidates is to know the Japanese language.

The certificate in the Japanese language will be jointly provided by the Ministry of External Affairs and Government of Japan. The certificate will also have the logos of HRD, Skill Development and Commerce. However, they are yet to decide the cost of the course.
