Karnataka Folklore University Holds its 2nd Convocation

The second convocation of Karnataka Folklore University was celebrated on 1st June on the university premises at Gotagodi in Shiggaon taluk of Haveri district.

26 students of the Karnataka Japada Vishwavidyalaya – also known as Karnataka Folklore University – received their postgraduate degrees, 2 students were awarded M. Phil degrees on the successful completion of their respective courses. Jagadish Gouda, a post-graduate student, was awarded with a gold medal instituted by the H.L. Nagegowda Foundation, on his excellent performance in Folk Literature.

The convocation address was given by Jnanpith awardee, Chandrashekhar Kambar who is a folklore expert while Governor Vajubhai Vala led the convocation ceremony.

Vice-Chancellor, K. Chinnappa Gowda informed that 16 students were awarded diplomas. He also told that the university has seen as many as 440 students who have completed 412 short-term certificate courses in the university’s learning centres as well as affiliated institutions in the session 2014-15.

Fakirappa Kaddi (Folk Science), Hanumanthappa Bengeri (Folk Arts), Manjappa Lamani (Folk Tourism), Mallikarjun Kale (Folk Journalism and Mass Communication) and Lalita Hosamani (MBA Rural Development and Tribal Affairs Management) made it to the first position and would be honored during the convocation, added Prof. Gowda.

He also mentioned that the Higher Education Minister T.B. Jayachandra will be present in the convocation ceremony.

Talking about the progress made by Karnataka Folklore University Registrar D.B. Naik and Registrar (Evaluation) D. Murahari Naik said that the response for the courses was gradually increasing. They also mentioned the initiative taken by the State Government to establish a high-level committee to supervise the recruitment in all the universities and to ensure that the recruitments are carried out with the government’s approval.
