Karnataka HC Issues Notice to State Government Over Shifting University Campus
Based on the petition of 50 odd institutions, affiliated to RGUHS, the High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday, 23rd February 2017 has issued a notice to the State Government.
Based on the petition of 50 odd institutions, affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, the High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday, 23rd February 2017 has issued a notice to the state government. These institutes had opposed the shifting of the campus of the University from its present site in Bengaluru to a new campus in Ramanagaram, which is 50 kilometers away from the old campus.
Justice A. S. Bopanna has told the authorities to reply to the petition filed by Principal Dr. Umashankar S of Padmashree Institute of Public Health and others institutes.
The petitioner said that the government is forcing the University to shift the new campus with the sole motive to gain wrong benefits from the funds of the University, that come from the students' fee, application fee and exam fee etc.
The whole episode is a proof that the government does not allocate any funds to the university. The government cannot force the University to shift to a new campus without any allotment of the funds. The shifting of the University will affect it at different levels like - applications, management of examination, announcement of results, issuance of hall tickets.

Students will lose their valuable time due to the delay of the declaration of the result and would not be able to join PG programmes or appear for job interviews. The shifting of the University will also affect the data compiled online. It will also jeopardise the future of over 1.5 lakh students. The whole project would cost around INR 520 crores, which is a complete loss of money, the petitioner said.
