Kerala Private Colleges Increase MBBS Fees by 10%
The Medical Colleges in Kerala seem unhappy with the government’s decision to increase the fee by 10%. The private medical colleges express their will to visit the Supreme court.
The Fee Regulatory Committee for Medical Education in Kerala issued a notice on 6th July 2019 to increase the fees in the private medical colleges by 10% for MBBS courses. The revised fees will be applicable from the current academic year 2019-20. With this circular, the medical college fees touched 7.20 lakhs per year from the previous 5.86 lakhs per year in the state. Last year, the MBBS course fees were charge between 5.32 to 6.54 rupees per year. The students studying in Christian Management Colleges will now have to pay 6.16 lakhs.
Justice R. Rajendra Babu, who is the chairman of the Kerala Medical Colleges Fee Regulatory Committee said that they have issued the order to increase the MBBS fees by 10% this year. The Government of Kerala will also issue the notice. This 10% is now the set fee leviable by the students. If the institute charges any more fees from the student, that will be counted as the capitation fees. He added that the fees were increased keeping in mind the increase in growth, development and price index.

The private medical colleges are not happy with the decision and have expressed their grievances on the decision. The Private Universities have expressed their will to visit the Supreme Court against the decision. They have suggested to increase the fees anything between 11 to 20 lakh.
