The Government of Maharashtra on 9th September 2019 has decided to introduce a bill which will ensure the reservation of seats in various medical colleges in the state of Maharashtra. This reservation policy will be applicable for certain seats in medical colleges run or aided by the municipal corporations and the State Government. On passing the bill the Government will be able to keep some seats reserved for the candidates who are willing to provide their services at government hospitals for a long span.

According to sources, the cabinet has decided to provide the candidates with a 10% reservation in the PG medical courses. It is to be noted that the students who opt for this policy will have to give at least 5 years of service in the government hospitals after completion of their course.

This can be considered to be a masterstroke by the government which will help in providing the common mass with much better and effective medical facilities. Many a time it has been found out that the candidates who pass medical courses from various government medical colleges are unwilling to serve the public by working for government medical hospitals. This leads to the lack of doctors in considerably remote areas which in turn results in the imbalance of the doctor-patient ratio. Passing such a reservation bill by the Government of Maharashtra will improve the healthcare facility in rural and tribal areas.
