Maharashtra: DTE Warns Students Not to Take Admission in Fake Universities

The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra has warned the students not to take admission in fake universities. The announcement has been made as the entrance examinations and admission season for various technical and professional courses are going to commence soon.

DTE indicated that there are some unrecognised and fake universities which offer bogus degrees. Earlier, DTE had sought relief for the aspirants who took admission in unrecognised colleges. It is the responsibility of parents and students to check the affiliation of the institutions and validity of degrees.

Subhash Mahajan, Director of DTE, issued a notice which cautioned the students and parents who seek admission to hotel management, engineering and pharmacy courses to check the affiliation and recognition of the institutions, courses and degrees.

He further added that the students and parents check the list of recognised institutes and courses on the official website of DTE, Maharashtra. In case, the students are unable to access the website; they can call the DTE regional directorates or helpline numbers.

It has become a common practice for DTE to issue notice cautioning the students and parents regarding fake universities every year.

One of the senior officials stated that it is better to warn the students at the right time before the entrance examinations as most of the students start researching about courses and institutes. In some rare cases, students get floored with fancy claims of institutes, and it becomes a headache to resolve the issues.

Most of the universities have already announced admission notifications for the academic session 2017.
