Maharashtra Govt to Conduct Re-exam for failed Class 9 students

  • 1.5 lakh students failed the examination in April 2016 and most of the students failed in languages science and mathematics.

As per the government resolution issued by the education department in January 2017, the state has decided to conduct re-examination for the failed student of Class 9. This will provide students with a second chance. Although the decision was put on hold in April 2017.

As per the January 2017, decision schools were required to conduct two months of an accelerated learning programme. This programme was an initiative for the students who failed in Class 9 in the April exam and had a total aggregate less than 45%. However, the schools disagreed with same and said that no such instructions were given to them by the education department. According to the reports, 1.5 lakh students failed the examination in April 2016 and most of the students failed in languages science and mathematics.

The Maharashtra govt has decided to conduct re-exam in the month of June and the students will be required to appear in only those subjects in which they have failed stated the circular issued on 7 April 2018. The government has also asked the school to be considered while assessing students who are suffering from serious illnesses and disability.

Whereas schools are unhappy about the decision as they are of the view that June is too late for a re-examination as class 10 starts much in advance. Therefore, a student can make a decision whether to repeat class 9 or appear for class 10 as a private student.
