Maharashtra State Government has suggested a plan to introduce the vocational course and skill-based courses in high schools and junior colleges which will be recognised under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF).

The courses will be industry-driven and the curriculum will be approved by the National Skill Development Corporation ( NSDC). The course will cater to various fields like automobile, healthcare, beauty, retail, sports and wellness etc. The aim of the introduction of such courses is to help students gain the skills and knowledge required for employment after secondary school.

A committee comprising six members will submit a report for the introduction of vocational/skill-based courses for students of classes from IX to XII. It will include the revised syllabus of current vocational courses as per the need of the industry and technological advancement. The committee will give additional suggestions on the improvisation of course.

The need for skilled professionals in different fields has increased, especially those job roles that require vocational education. At the same time, these courses will help interested students to pick up the right ITI course after 10th.

The National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) is a quality assurance framework introduced under the Ministry of government to help candidates acquire knowledge, skills and aptitude. The learner acquires certification NSQF for competency needed in industry or workplace and it can be acquired through formal, non-formal or informal learning.
